Tips For A Great Cup of Coffee
Here are a few tips for a great cup of coffee.
Coffee will stay fresh for about 30 days once you open the vacuum packed bag. Whole coffee beans will stay fresher a little longer than ground coffee. To keep your coffee fresher longer, keep it stored in an airtight container out of direct sunlight. Your pantry is a great place to store it.
While some may advocate freezing your coffee, or keeping it in the refrigerator I don't recommend that as both will cause moisture to build up in your container and get into your coffee when you bring it out to room temperature.
For the absolute best tasting coffee, grind your coffee fresh and grind only as much as you will use. Use one to two tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 ounces of water. Your personal taste preference will determine how much you use.
Use fresh cold water. Pure bottled water (not the water with added minerals) or filtered water is much better to use than tap water. Most water coming from the tap has too many minerals which can effect the taste of the coffee.
A clean coffee maker is essential to a good cup of coffee. After each use be sure to rinse the filter holder and carafe and wipe off any coffee residue left around the showerhead (area where water is dripped into the coffee filter). About once every six months the coffee maker should be decalcified. To decalcify the coffee brewer simply follow the instructions specified in the coffee brewers instruction manual. This will remove any mineral buildup, this buildup can result in bitter tasting coffee.
